Carers pampered at Bexley Mencap

Carers of people with learning disabilities were treated to an evening of health and beauty therapy by Bexley Mencap, followed by a pizza supper and a chance to chat.

Caring for a person with a learning disability is a very demanding and tiring job and Bexley Mencap knows that if carers are to be able to carry on with their caring role, they need regular breaks.  That’s why this pamper evening was arranged.  The therapists, who all donated their time free of charge, provided Indian head massages, neck and shoulder treatments and reflexology.  Manicurists gave hand and nail treatments.  After the sessions finished, carers had the opportunity for a chat whilst enjoying pizzas kindly donated by Bexleyheath ASDA.  The evening was a complete success and thank you notes and messages have been pouring in.

Kathryn Davey, Bexley Mencap’s Family Support Worker commented ‘It’s easy to underestimate the lifelong commitment that our carers give.  It’s so important that they have some time to themselves and so we were determined to put on an evening just for them.  Bexley Mencap staff, volunteers, therapists and ASDA have all worked in partnership to pull this off.  It was great to see carers going home looking relaxed and beautiful!’
