We have been carefully monitoring the current Covid-19 situation, following all available national and local advice and have been vigilant in following the hygiene guidelines from Public Health England. As ever, our priority is the members and families we support, our staff, our volunteers and our supporters. At this point in time, we have no reported cases in any members, staff or partners at Bexley Mencap.
However, as many of our members and families may be considered more ‘at risk’ from Covid-19 it is important that we put the health and wellbeing of them, and our staff and volunteers, first and support efforts to manage the spread of the virus. For this reason, we will be following advice and will be temporarily stop our group activities, and most of our individual support, with immediate effect until at least 20th April 2020. We will continue to provide individual support to the most at-risk individuals and priority services such as health support for individuals following guidance from Public Health England.
Our team will still be available by telephone and email to provide support and advice and we will be looking to continue as many of our services using technology (phone, video and photo) as we can.
We know that for many of our members, our groups are often a vital source of companionship and support and recognise the impact this may have, but hope that you will all understand and support any steps we take to protect our members. We will be keeping in touch with members regularly and doing whatever we can to support people through this challenging time.
