Bexley Mencap contributes to national advocacy report

Bexley Mencap was pleased to contribute to Social Finance’s Building Stronger Foundations report, which explores how the independent advocacy sector can become more sustainable and effective for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

The report brings together insight from advocacy organisations, people with lived experience, funders and sector stakeholders to identify the key challenges facing the sector.

Our contribution helped inform the report’s discussion of the importance of long-term relationships, business development capacity, and sustainable funding.

This reflects the reality that local advocacy services need both stability and investment if they are to continue supporting people to speak up and access the support they need.

The report also makes a strong case for the value of independent advocacy and the need for a more joined-up sector voice..

We’re proud to have been part of this important piece of work and to have contributed to the national conversation about the future of advocacy.
