Striking out for Bexley Mencap

There was no sparing the strikes as Bexley Mencap’s recent Ten Pin Bowling night raised over £700 to support our work in the borough helping people with learning disabilities and their families and carers.

Over 50 members, family members, staff and supporters met up for a fantastic social evening that also included lots of friendly competition.

Bexley Mencap runs a comprehensive Healthy Lives programme of sports, keep fit and social events to promote inclusivity and better mental health and physical wellbeing, so it was no surprise to see so many active participants. The overall trophy winner over two highly contested games was Chris with a combined total of 240 – including an amazing score of 139 in the first game.

New member Jeenan said: ‘It’s great to be able to meet up in the evening with my friends from my Wednesday afternoon Walking Football group!’

Zahra Scott- Gunnglaugsson, Bexley Mencap’s Business Manager, who organised the event said:

‘It was so lovely to see members, parents, carers and friends all playing together and enjoying each other’s company.’

Several carers and parents remarked how nice it was to be part of the evening and also see their loved ones enjoying themselves with friends and fellow members; some of whom who they might not always get the chance to socialise with.
